Despite being a modern artist's rendition of Togfan, this might have been how Divine appeared on the battlefield in the 1337 invasion of Ihazon.

Divine is a very rare race infamous for extremely long lifespans and incredible power. They are viewed as direct descendants from the inhabitants of the Godrealms by Genus Reditus, and as frequent hosts of the Demigods by Asseculs and Devout Asseculs. The most known Divine in modern times is Togfan, mayor of Langenthal, who unlike her counterparts appear to be pacifistic.
Characteristics
Divine share a similar stature to that of humans, but possess incredible beauty and charisma as well as incredibly long lifespans, believed to span around a 1000 years. They can sprout ethereal wings at will that allow them limited flight, and they have an incredibly high innate prowess for magic. The School of Radosis was founded to describe the magic showed by Divine, which focuses primarily on magic based on fire or intense light.
Despite having an incredible potency for destruction, Divine themselves appear to be physically frail and show considerably low levels of strength. They are also, like many other winged races, light in weight, averaging around 50 kgs.
For reasons unknown, Divine have an abnormally high female-to-male ratio. Scholarly works from Radosis also state Divine to have low fertility rates and long pregnancy periods. The limited medical technology at the time may have caused giving birth, even for a Divine, to be a hazardous endeavour. This combined with their long life spans have likely given little incentive for Divine to consider offspring. Notable exceptions exist, such as Empress Clementia, who birthed 5 Divine sons (an exceedingly rare feat!).
History
Throughout history, Divine have always been a rare sight but very influential in shaping the world once they interfere. During the expansionist era of Radosis, the empire was home to the largest concentration of Divine ever known of, and many of the largest Radosicus families as well as Empresses were Divine. The most known Divine ruler was perhaps Empress Clementia, who with her five Divine sons attempted to rule all of Surface with an iron fist.
Their innate power and charisma are likely the reasons for their ability to consistently gain incredibly influential positions of power. Despite Clementia's brutal regime, she was adored by her nation. The true strength of Divine, however, was not demonstrated before the bloody 1337 invasion of Ihazon. The Radosicus army, led primarily by Pigmen, had already swiftly invaded several other countries when they arrived in Ihazon. The destruction they unleashed has been unrivalled ever since. Several cities were wiped out and an enormous percentage of the population were mercilessly slaughtered. The infamous siege of Trondheim, which has had numerous accounts from survivors and onlookers, was over in under an hour.
During Radosis' internal collapse in 1350 and the concurring death of Empress Clementia, her Divine sons stirred up a devastating civil war in battle of the throne. The sheer destructive power displayed has been said to be even greater than that shown during the 1337 invasion. None of the sons survived the civil war, and a large majority of Divine were wiped out from this event that lasted not much longer than a year.
Through the years, the succeeding Divine were lost in time, with only a very few known remaining.
Content below is considered metaknowledge.
Divine stem from the Demigods of the old world, who used their incredibly destructive power to cause the events of the Cataclysm. As their punishment, the court of the Godrealms banished them to a leftover land without magic, where they would have to live at the same level as humans. The arrogant and prideful Divine saw this as an incredible insult, as they valued power over all else and detested 'lower' beings, and did whatever they could to try to regain their magic affinity.
What the Godrealms did not account for, perhaps due to an oversight, were the elves of Misthliþ, a magically isolated land already inhabited by exiles and ex-cons from the old world and perhaps other lands as well. They had managed to harness magic in the seemingly magic-less world, mostly to shield themselves from the sight of the Godrealms. It's likely due to this that the Divine were able to harness magic again over time, as well as spreading knowledge of it to other races as well.
This lead to the 1337 invasion of Ihazon, where their magic capabilities were tested out and demonstrated to the world, and culminated in the 1350 civil war of Radosis, where it was used to destroy themselves.
Whether this was the intent of the Godrealms to begin with, their destiny seems only too befitting of them: As much as they viewed themselves as 'higher' beings, their magic was purely destructive in nature; meaning their descendants, the Celeste, as well as many of their fellow Demigods, completely outmatched them in terms of magic affinity. This makes their demise seem an example of, perhaps coincidental, cruel cosmic irony, as it was the magic-less humans they detested that took over their reign and influence.
Trivia
- Traditional Devouts refer to Divine as angels, believing they are sent from God to punish Mankind when they overstep their boundaries.
- According to Genus Reditus, Divine are distant descendants of the 8 Demigods of virtues who descended from the Godrealms to create Radosis.
- Asseculs and Devout Asseculs believe Divine are all Demigods, hence explaining their incredible power and long lifespans.
- The current Empress of Radosis, Katarina III, claims to be part Divine. This has not been proven and many outside of Radosis have harboured scepticism to this notion.
