Radosis (meaning Radiance in Anus Radosicus) is a large empire located south of the Thoirazon region and east of Tekkea. Despite the current modest population, it was once the largest empire on Surface, ruling over most countries known to man.
Radosis consists of Capu Terram, the capital and the empire's administrative hub, the two kingdoms Regnum Silvam and Regnum Novus Dies, and the two imperial provinces Liberium Desertis and Ignis Montis.

Politics

Radosis is among the oldest known nations on Surface, and has retained its system of power more or less the same throughout.

The legislative body of the empire is the Superiori Councilium, also just referred to as the Council, and is located in the Domus Reginaerum in Capu Terram. The Council consists of 32 members with a mandate of 4 years who are personally appointed by the Empress and represent all five of the administrative regions of Radosis. The typical distribution of members is 8 from Capu Terram (4 from the Senate and 4 from the Assembly) and 6 from the various courts, senates and assemblies of the other regions.
The Council enacts nation-wide laws, though each law must be approved by the Empress. While she technically cannot enact laws herself, there is nothing preventing her from replacing the Council with one that agrees to her laws - or to simply pressure them into agreeing.

In addition to enacting laws, the Council also elects the lower Magistrate positions (Quaestors, Aediles and Consuls) who take up various executive duties, similar to that of ministry posts in a parliamentary system.
The office of Censors is the highest political position attainable through normal means, and is picked personally by the Empress. In addition to being responsible for population census and overseeing the various Magistrates and the Council, they also appoint high-ranking positions such as Governors, military commanders, and supreme judges. The mandate of Censors last 8 years.

Despite the Magistrate having the role of the executive branch, the one who effectively holds absolute power is the Empress. Her unique autocratic role and her direct command over the empire's army allows her to essentially coerce the system into her submission - which is exactly what was seen several times prior to the Fall of Radosis.
Additionally, as a hereditary monarchy, the Empress holds power until death or abdication and is considered protected by the "will of the Gods". Their first daughter or son is considered the rightful heir to the succeed the throne after their 16th birthday. Until the heir comes of age, the collective Council has effective power over Radosis.

Political Culture

Many historians have described the political system of Radosis as "being balanced on a needle." Throughout its history, there has been an abundance of domestic conflicts between the various kingdoms and within the Council itself, with frequent uprisings, assassinations and attempted coups, each more violent than the last and justifying greater authoritarian power enacted by the Empress.
The lowest point of the empire was the Fall of Radosis. Not only was it the most devastating civil war in history, but the next decades saw the throne effectively remain empty as the various factions scrambled for power, even among themselves.

Despite the violent history of the country, Radosis today is relatively pacified.
In the aftermath of the Era of Blood, it has become expected of the Empress to possess a more passive political stance and allowing the various political bodies to operate unimpeded. While the Empress still picks Council members from the kingdoms of Silvam and Novus Dies herself, all other regions - Liberium Desertis, Ignis Montis and Capu Terram - elect their own members. The Empress lets the office of Censors oversee this process, who are still handpicked by her.
In this way, the Council is allowed to enact laws on behalf of the empire's regions, with the Empress only stepping in to prevent laws that would cause great divide or unrest among the country.

Because the modern conception of the Empress is so passive, the position itself has become far less desirable. While preventing heirs from obtaining power - through assassinations or wars - was common in the past, it has been several hundred years since this last happened, and the succession of the throne is kept relatively intact after the Era of Blood.

Origin

Little is known of Radosis' actual origin. According to Genus, 8 demigods descended down on Surface to declare what would become a holy empire decreed by God Himself. These 8 demigods, each representing a virtue, would become the foundation of the nation's official faith, Genus Reditus. The demigods also declared this year 0, as "a past without Radosis is not a past worth remembering" (from Book of Genus, chapter 4). Indeed, nothing of the world is known before year 0.

At some point, contact with demigods was lost. This is where the faith diverges into two beliefs: Followers of Genus Reditus, Redeos, believe the demigods left only to return in the future for the salvation of Radosis. Redeos have attempted to bring Radosis to greatness in order to speed up the return of their demigods. However, many followers believed the demigods were still present on Surface, albeit disguised, and that only a true follower would realize when they saw the demigods. This faith was named Assecula de Genus, and gained more popularity abroad. Many Devouts saw signs of demigods on Surface, and would become Asseculs.

Reformation Era

Expansionist Era

During the 1200s, Radosis' foreign investment paid off as trade deals with Tekkea gave the economy of Radosis a large boost. Improved tools and knowledge would make the life of the citizens of Radosis much easier and more efficient. However, towards the late 1200s, raw resources would start running out as technological development and economic growth demanded more materials and resources than ever. The current Emperor of Radosis ordered production of goods to scale down in an attempt to save resource usage, but his action was met with strong resistance from the people, who had now grown accustomed to the riches.

In 1292, the Radosian throne was swiftly and violently seized by Empress Clementia, a Divine with ambitious plans for the empire. Her way of words guaranteed her the support of the people, before she started the plans for a large-scale invasion of their neighbouring nations. Military production was prioritized over all, and the Radosian army over tripled in size.

In early 1332, the Radosian army marched into Tekkea and annexed the technologically advanced nation they had up until now been loyal trade partners with in a brutal but efficient campaign. The Tekkean army found themselves overwhelmed by the sheer size of the army that attacked without warning. The resources taken from Tekkea gave the military production an even greater boost, and the army would again double in size within the next years. The invasion of Tekkea was met with roaring applause in Radosis.

Empress Clementia's plan did not stop there, however. Shortly after, she sent her humongous army northwards. In 1336, most of her army was stationed in the frozen tundras today known as Thoiria, awaiting their march eastwards in what would be the 1337 invasion of Ihazon, the largest invasion in the history of Surface.

Era of Blood

blah blah blah clementia is killed blah blah Fall of Radosis
the sons all want the power and start a bloody civil war that completely decimates the country. the son that survives and takes the throne starts mass executing enemies, before promptly being backstabbed by his closest friend. this marks the end of the reign of divine. a mad dash for power ensues for the next 30 or so years, with people wanting the throne run by non-divine. there's also an increasing wish for independence for the kingdoms.
by then a new motherfucker takes charge as a brutal autocrat, who didn't like the idea of splitting up radosis, before he dies of cancer or whatever and we have yet again a dash for power for the next 100 or so fucking years who cares.
then they all get really tired of war and bloodshed and just decide to put some random woman who doesn't actually want to rule in exchange for her letting the council run its own affairs (read: backstab each other without interference from the empress).

this continues to the modern era until they get tired of backstabbing each other and instead just decide to throw insults at each other instead
