Magic
Magic is a concept describing manipulation of the world in a way not currently explainable by science. It can range from small interactions that have no logical explanation, such as the Church of Langenthal's various miracles, to seemingly being able to will anything into existence, letting a single individual amass the power of a whole nation.
After the devastating 1337 invasion of Ihazon, the Church of Langenthal has upheld a complete ban over all magic not approved within their own ranks.
Even without formal bans on it, most of the known world have taken a very negative stance towards magic as well, which has resulted in magic becoming even more of a mystified and mysterious concept than it already was.
This page attempts to address all known forms of magic, even if such systems have not been proven to exist, and so may be subject to change.
Schools of Magic
A few 'schools' of magic have been referenced throughout history. These schools serve as a collection, often codified in paper, of their practiced magic. From these references, we can see that schools of magic tend to be extremely specialised, with each school having systems so different from one another that it is hard to think it could all be considered to be under the same umbrella term of 'magic'. And indeed, perhaps it would be wrong to classify them all as such; we simply lack the knowledge for anything else.
School of Radosis
Main article: Divine
Radosicus magic is closely linked to the prominence of Divine in ancient Radosis, whose high innate magical prowess made them fiercely skilled at using magic offensively. As a result, Radosicus magic is centred around its appliance in war. The potency of this magic was demonstrated during the 1337 invasion of Ihazon, which scholars have described as the most devastating siege ever laid. Reports of fire and destruction raining from the sky indicate that Radosicus magic might be focused on large scale arcane fire spells--today, one could refer to an individual wielding the power of an atomic bomb as an equivalent comparison--and that practise of it is tied to genes, as neither non-Divine nor Pigmen Radosicus were ever seen wielding such power.
Path of God
Main article: Miracle Casting
Specialisations:
- Path of Fealty
- Path of Heresy
Although it is denied to be a form of magic by the Church of Langenthal, who refer to it as miracle casting, it nevertheless functions similarly in many ways and is considered a school of magic by many.
The school generally splits into two paths: The Path of Fealty is the most common and outwardly known school, and focuses on the casting of miracles channelled through faith and purity. Spells within this school are almost all defensive in nature, providing great amounts of healing and utility to support their frontline fighters. The Holy Immortal Chosen Crusaders, THICC, teach basic miracle casting to all their members, as well as keeping several dedicated backline miracle casters.
The lesser known school is the Path of Heresy. Due to the Church's ban on magic, a need arose for ways to defend against it. Those who go down this route are known as Church Hunters--being essentially mage assassins--and are trained in the use of powerful counter-magic, deploying a range of spells and specially infused weaponry designed to counter all known forms of magic, as well as creatures with high innate magic affinity, such as Deamons, Vampires and Divine.
Book of Mist
Main article: Book of Mist
Specialisations:
- Martial Arts
- Material Manipulation
- Energy Manipulation
- Mind Manipulation
Many believe Misthliþ was the first nation to write down and classify magic in what is now called the Book of Mist. Despite its name, it's not actually a book but rather a set of texts, often bound separately. Because Misthliþ is a country that is still shrouded in mystery, very few are able to get their hands on copies of these texts and thus knowledge of their magic is still limited.
Scholars have described Misthliþa magic to be complicated but potent. Practise of it is heavily tied to the caster and has a large focus of arcane conjuration and mimicking reality. It is said that mastery of this type of magic requires life long dedication.
Shàolin Zhiidào (Way of Shàolin)
Main article: Shaan Xiin
Specialisations:
- Wuzhe Zhiidào (Way of the Dancer)
- Zhànshì Zhiidào (Way of the Warrior)
Known only by tales from Hanxiin, exiles from Shaan Xiin, who tell of a magic widely used for rituals and war alike, referred to as the Way of Shàolin. They are generally split into two paths: the Way of the Dancer, and the Way of the Warrior.
Due to the Catling's small physique, their magic use is extensively based on telekinesis. Their Warriors focus exclusively on this, becoming masters of wielding melee weapons, both improvised and forged, at ranges rivalling that of traditional archers.
Dancers, on the other hand, combine a sword as catalyst in one hand and an element in the other in a dance-like fighting style, being capable of both defensive and offensive spell casting at multiple ranges.
School of Nether
Main article: The Nether, Pentacle of Percy
The most mystified and unknown form of magic is that of the School of Nether. They are practitioners of blood magic, a rumoured form of magic revolving around blood sacrifice and ritualistic pentacles. It is disputed among experts whether this form of magic actually exists, as no traces of it has ever been discovered to the public.
The use of this magic is applied to multiple groups antagonised by the church: Percinists, Vampires as well as Deamons.
Celestial Code
Content below is considered metaknowledge.
Referred to as pure magic, the Celestial Code is a codified index of magic available to Celeste, inhabitants of the Godrealms. Pure magic is unspecialised, and incorporates magic from all other known forms of magic. A magic form uniquely associated with this is cosmic magic, giving a practitioner control over manipulation of spacetime itself, allowing bending of reality itself and traversal across nearly infinite distances. It is precisely this magic form that has given Celeste domination over all known cosmic realms, and their justification in acting as the universe's judicator.
True Magic
Content below is considered metaknowledge.
True magic, or raw magic, is not so much magic as it is complete control over the universe itself. It is not a codified system, but more of an abstract, innate understanding of the universe on both a macro and micro scale. It thus surpasses pure magic, which cannot restructure or change the laws of nature themselves, by multitudes. The only beings with capabilities for true magic is Cosmics, who are more akin to forces of nature themselves than sentient beings.
Trivia
- Combatants against the practice of magic have been known to wildly slap the air in search of hidden magic users, as some magic allows invisibility.
