Hafenstadtöl is an offshore oil drilling company situated in Porthown, Thoiria.

Background

Surveying expeditions west of Porthown has revealed large oil deposits for some time already, but the funding required to start drilling has been difficult. Thoiria's lack of currency has made things more difficult, as trading the amounts of materials and advanced technology required has demanded collective effort. Ideas have been exchanged with oil drilling companies in Tekkea, whom have long experience with oil. Unfortunately, their experience is solely land-based. Offshore drilling is still a new venture without experts, although it seems likely now that Thoiria will be the pioneers of this new technology trade. Ihazon spokesmen have suggested shared ownership to boost the combined Thoirazon trade, but Thoirian national representative Asbjorr Curry has denied any intents of this.

Operation

Hafenstadtöl is a company owned by the collective of Thoiria. It trades on the international market with Key and is the only registered company in the country. Despite being a registered company, it runs very differently from companies in other countries. Since Thoiria does not use a transaction system based on money, it does not offer wages either. Thus, the company is in the unique situation of not having a set of monetary expenses. Despite this, they have material expenses and run a simulated set of expenses, including a large portion dedicated to investment.

Revenue surplus is divided and distributed nationally. The exact distribution has been a hot topic, but is currently a mix of per capita and per city to prevent any city from gaining a disproportionate amount of money.

Talk has been made whether Hafenstadtöl should make a collectively owned foreign investment fund to accumulate money for the future, but this has not been confirmed yet by the collective.
