Race, also referred to as ethnicity, is a grouping between humanoids to differentiate various mental and physical attributes as well as cultural ones. Due to the inherent differences between races, albeit they may not be large, a way to categorise has been felt necessary by many. Different cultures are also closely related to races.
Some confuse the word 'race' with 'species'. The key difference is that all races can safely produce offspring together, while species cannot. There is however made a distinction between races that are humanoid in origin, and races that are not. Humanoid races share a lot of similarities and may inhabit many of the same features. Non-humanoid races are more similar to animals, and may originate therefrom, but are sentient on the same level as other humanoids and often more human-like in appearance than animals.
